MEDO System | The concept of ergonomic window

MEDO System | The concept of ergonomic window

In the past ten years, a new type of window was introduced from abroad “Parallel Window”. It is quite popular with the house owners and architects. In fact, some people said that this type of window is not as good as imagined and there are many problems with it. What is that and why? Is it a problem with the window type itself or is it a misunderstanding on ourself?

What is a parallel window?
At present, this kind of window type is special and not as much as people know it. Therefore, there are no relevant standards, specifications, or specific definitions for the parallel window.
Parallel window refers to a window that is equipped with a sliding hinge that can open or close the sash parallel to the direction of the facade where it is located.

The key hardware of parallel windows is "Parallel opening hinges"

This type of parallel opening hinge is installed on the four sides of a window. While the parallel window is opened, the sash is not the same as a normal hinge that works one side or multi-hinge using one track, the opening method of the parallel window is as the name mentioned, the entire window sash parallel moves out.

The main advantages of sliding windows are obvious:

1. Good at lighting. Unlike the general casement window and top-hung window, as long as it is within the front range of the opening window, sunlight will enter directly through the opening gap no matter what angle the sun is at; no light occlusion situation exists.

2. Conducive to ventilation and firefighting since there are gaps all around the opening sash equally, the air in and out can be easily circulated and exchanged, increasing the amount of fresh air.

During the actual case, especially for large-parallel windows, most of the users have had the feeling about: Why is this window so difficult to open?

1. The force of opening and closing windows is directly and closely related to the type of hardware used. The principle and the motion of the parallel window is just rely on the user’s strength to overcome the friction, the weight and the gravity of the window. There is no other design mechanism for supporting. Therefore, normal casement windows are effortless during the process of opening and closing compared to parallel windows.

2. The opening and closing of parallel windows are all based on the user’s strength. Therefore, two handles must be installed in the middle of both sides of the window sash, and the user should use his arm strength to pull the window sash closer or push it out. The problem with this action is that the window must be parallel to the facade during movement, which causes the user to need to use both hands with the same force and speed to open and close the window otherwise it will easily cause the sash of parallel window twisted at a certain angle. However, since people have different strengths of left and right arms and the hardware operation is contrary to the habitual posture of the human body, it does not fit the concepts of ergonomic.
